Roosevelt Green, 90, of Windsor, beloved husband of the late Inez Green, passed away on November 7, 2017 while at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Franklin, Louisiana on March 6, 1927, son of the late Walter Green and Elnora (Charles) Green. Roosevelt enlisted in the US Army in May of 1945 and honorably served overseas during World War II. After he was discharged, he relocated to Hartford, Connecticut where he worked as the head of the maintenance department for the Hartford Housing Authority and retired after 38 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and fishing during his leisure time. Roosevelt was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather as well as a faithful member of Mount Olive Church Ministries, Inc. for over 40 years. He is survived by six children, Margaret Green of East Hartford, Felicia Dukes-Shaw of Hartford, Elisa Green of Windsor, Paddy Green of Hartford, Randy Green of East Hartford, Darrell Dukes of Florida; a sister, Annabelle Watson of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Renee Green, Tracy Green, Antoinette Walker, Randy Green, Jr., Jason Shaw, Syretta Shaw, Montayia Shaw; 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife Inez, Roosevelt was predeceased by his son, Danny Dukes and five siblings, Joseph Green, Lillie Mae Sheldon, Ella Mae Windsor, Shirley Green, and Nora Smith. A Homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at Mount Olive Church Ministries, Inc., 20 Battles St., Hartford with visitation and viewing from 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor. Visitation hours with viewing will also be held on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. To send online notes of condolences, please visit
