William R. "Bill" Rotherforth, 87, of Rocky Hill, CT died December 31, 2017 at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Southington CT. Born February 8, 1930 in New Britain CT to William and Lillian (Freeman) Rotherforth. A Korean War veteran, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sylvia (Bartholomew) Rotherforth in July 2017. William was a devoted member of the Rocky Hill United Methodist Church, and had served as trustee and treasurer. Bill was a fan of Giants football, Red Sox baseball and all UCONN sports; often joking how his viewership brought them bad luck! Bill enjoyed sharing many hobbies with his family, from bowling, fishing, and gardening, to photography and watercolor. Bill was a pioneer of local model aviation and an early member of the CCRCC R/C model airplane club in Farmington. He was proficient in competitive bullseye pistol shooting, and was a member of many local gun clubs including Metacon, Capital City, Hartford Gun Club and the Blue Trail Range. He served as a member of the Rocky Hill Permanent Building Committee in the early to mid-80s. William earned a bachelor's degree from UCONN in Civil Engineering in 1951, and retired from Northeast Utilities in 1992 after 25 years with the company. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by a brother- and sister-in-law Dick and Barbara Bartholomew, and a grandson Kenneth Shew Jr. He is survived by a brother, Walter Rotherforth of Bloomfield; children Cindy (Jose) Aponte of New Britain, Robin Rotherforth of Rocky Hill, and Scott Rotherforth of Glastonbury; grandson Thomas Shew (Elizabeth Gilman); great-grandchildren Mia, Carter and Tucker; nephew Rick (Ashly) Bartholomew, niece Bonnie Bartholomew; and countless friends and extended family. Visitation is Sunday January 7, 2018 from 3-6 PM at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, CT. Funeral service will be Monday, January 8, 2018, 10:30 AM at the Rocky Hill United Methodist Church, 623 Old Main St., Rocky Hill CT. Burial will be at Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Memorial donations may be made in William's name to the Rocky Hill United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 623 Old Main St., Rocky Hill, CT, 06067, or to any worthy charity of the donor's choice.
