Richard A. Poirier, 63, of Ellington, CT, beloved husband of Danine Poirier, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Middletown, CT. Richard was born in Hartford to Madeleine (LePage) Poirier and the late Armand Charles Poirier, on December 7, 1954. He grew up in Windsor, and was a graduate of Windsor High School Class of 1973. In 1980 he married Danine Zizzamia and the two moved to Ellington where they have resided since. Richard earned his Bachelor’s Degree and worked as a licensed Plumber. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ellington where he served as an usher for many years. He was a avid golfer of great talent. He enjoyed working on crossword and sudoku puzzles. He was a fan of both the New York Giants and Yankees. He was a quiet observer with a dry sense of humor, always able to make people around him laugh. Richard is survived by his wife of 37 years, Danine Poirier; his mother, Madeleine Poirier; daughter Danielle Montville and her husband Trevor, of Dayville; his sister Gail Meijer and her husband Sigurd, of Granby; granddaughter Evelyn Montville; and many extended family members and friends. Calling hours are being held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Route 83) Vernon and on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10 - 11 am. A Memorial Service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11 am. Burial will be private at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, donation’s in Richard’s memory may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, CT Chapter, 659 Tower Avenue, 1st Floor, Hartford, CT 06112-1269, an organization Richard supported by participating in the past 8 years of their annual walk.
