Patrick Joseph Grakowsky, 99 and 3/4, of Vernon, formerly of Manchester, Hartford and Poquonock, beloved husband of the late Rose (Magee) Grakowsky, Edna (Roberts) Grakowsky and Dorothy (Smith) Grakowsky passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday January 6, 2018, at Rockville Hospital. Patrick was born at home on March 27, 1918 in the Poquonock section of Windsor, son of the late Dominick and Marcella (Sopolitis) Grakowsky. Patrick grew up in Poquonock and attended Windsor schools. He worked at the J.L. Howard Company for over 50 years, starting in his teens and retired as part owner in 1995. During WWII he was deferred from service by his employer who counted on him to help keep their business running. A resident of Manchester for most of his adult life, Patrick was a member of St. James church, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years. He loved being outdoors and taking the dogs for long walks. He was also a member of the Manchester Elks Club, and Manchester Senior Center. He had a passion for singing, sports and dancing, especially the Polka. Pat was a strong, generous, kind and gentle man, met everyone with a smile and will be dearly missed. He leaves his daughter, Tami Macdonald and her husband Douglas of Vernon; his daughter-in-law Joan Grakowsky of Churchville NY, his grandchildren, Ian Macdonald and his wife Biota of Hartford, and Megan Macdonald of Springfield, MA; Michael Grakowsky and his wife Esther, Leslie Lusk and her husband Joe, Richard Grakowsky, Julie Hood and her husband Matt, and Stephanie Grakowsky all of New York; his great grandchildren, Elise Grakowsky, Marlena Grakowsky, Hayden Lusk, Devin Lusk, and Visca Dillio; his step children and their families, Susan Wistrand, Sherry O’Kraska, Maureen Gray, Paula Barry, and James Magee; many nieces and nephews; and his four legged friends, Chu Dhub and Stan. He was predeceased by his wives, Dorothy, Edna, and Rose; his siblings, Marcella Galetta, Bronislaw Grakowsky, Victor Grakowsky, and Joseph Grakowsky; and his two sons, Patrick Grakowsky Jr., and Thomas Grakowsky. His family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 9-10:30 a.m.., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in Poquonock, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Poquonock. The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse’s North Central Hospice and Palliative Care Program and the staff of Rockville Hospital for Pat’s compassionate care.
