Leon Patten Waterford- Leon I. Patten, age 89, of Waterford, passed away peacefully December 5, 2017, at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born September 8, 1928, in Burlington, Vermont, the son of Leon and Marjorie Bennett Patten. He was a 1947 graduate of Burlington High School, and in 1951 graduated from the University of Vermont where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Patten served in the United States Army. He was employed for the National Cash Register from 1955 - 1959. He had been employed by the State of Connecticut and retired in 1989 as a Tax Examiner. He had also operated a tax business from 1963-2012. He was treasurer for the Connecticut State Employees Association, Chapter 416. He was also a member of the Thamesville Athletic Club and their accountant for 47 years. He was an avid Patriots, Red Sox and UConn Basketball fan. He married Barbara Beaney Patten September 7, 1963 in St. Peter and Paul Church in Norwich. She survives him. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Briglia of Glastonbury, Susan Couture and her husband Lee of Waterford; two grandchildren, Carter Briglia and Logan Couture. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Richard Patten of Texas. Calling hours will be from 4 - 7 PM on Thursday at the Thomas L. Neilan & sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. The funeral service will be conducted at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home at 11 AM on Friday. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
