Henry Williams Jr., 79, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born August 12, 1938 in St. Louis, MO, to the late Henry and Cornelia (Whitfield) Williams. Henry grew up in Tacoma, WA. He retired in 1980 as a Master Sergeant after 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed in Korea, Japan, Philippines, England and various states, he also had long term TDY assignments in Cyprus and Turkey. Immediately after retirement he spent two years working in Thule, Greenland. When he returned to the United States he worked for defense contractors in Quality Assurance and retired from Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, New Jersey. He later moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he worked for the Home Instruction for the Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program of Sunrise Hospital. He enjoyed collecting and listening to music, often DJ-ing parties and events. As a young person in the 1950’s and 60’s he saw many of the jazz legends perform live in Tokyo and New York City. While in the Air Force, he was an avid bowler and loved shooting darts. He leaves his wife, Hisae Williams of West Hartford; his daughter, Holly M. Williams and her husband Leroy Butler of West Hartford; his son, Cory K. Williams of Cherry Hill, NJ; his sister, Maurine Tyler of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren, Nolan Butler and Anil Butler both of West Hartford; his nieces and nephew, Tracy Turner of Tacoma, WA, Robin Aguilar of Eugene, OR, Catrina Parker of Las Vegas, NV, and Jeff White of Tacoma, WA; as well as his best friend, Ernestina Craig of Las Vegas, NV. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara White and his half-brother, Virgil Washington. His family will receive friends on Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 1-3 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; a Memorial Service will follow at 3 p.m., in the funeral home. His ashes will be interred at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV in early 2018 with military honors.
