George Louis Tony Sillaber, 86, of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston, MA on August 2, 1931 to the late Joseph and Emma (Rasnarova) Sillaber. He grew up and lived in Boston, MA before moving to Vernon 54 years ago. He was a graduate of Boston University. George proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart. One of George’s greatest passions was aviation. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 33 years where he started his career as an aircraft mechanic and then later became a technical writer. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and was an avid Red Sox fan. George is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Sillaber of 39 years; his children, George Jr. of East Windsor, Susan Schreiner and her husband John of Andover, Betsy Schroeder and her husband Mark of Canton, and John Gardner of Stafford Springs. George also leaves behind his grandchildren, whom he adored, Brian and Jennifer Sillaber, Ryan and Megan Schreiner, Claire, Ella and Sophia Schroeder, David, Nicholas, Brandon and Evan Gardner, and his great grandchildren, Joanna, Cobie, and Layla Gardner. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Sillaber Jr. The family would like to especially thank Manchester Memorial Hospital ICU staff and the doctors in the pulmonary group for the amazing care and support they received. His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 5 - 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon.
