Alice (Bouchard) Newbery, 82, of Simsbury, beloved wife for 59 years of Robert D. Newbery, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, surrounded by her family in Simsbury. Born in Connor, ME on May 19, 1934, daughter of the late Ernest and Josephine (Paradise) Bouchard, she moved to Hartford with her family as a young girl. Alice attended Hartford schools and was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1952. After high school, Alice took a position at The Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance Company where she met her future husband Robert. After their marriage, she went to work at The Hartford Insurance Company as a computer operator where she stayed until her retirement in 1989 after over 20 years of service. During her retirement, Alice worked in the archives department at the Archdiocese of Hartford and she later volunteered at McLean's in Simsbury. Alice and her family lived in Windsor Locks for many years before moving to Simsbury in 1994 after she and her husband retired. Alice and Robert were devout Catholics and volunteered in many capacities at the parishes that they belonged to over the years and as a Eucharistic Ministers at Hartford Hospital. She and her husband also served as a team couple for many years for Marriage Encounters. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Raymond R. Newbery of Middletown; a sister, Doris Parent of Vernon; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two infant children, Joseph and Francis Newbery; four brothers, Lionel, Albert, Roland, and Roger Bouchard; and six sisters, Anita Collins, Albertine Hebert, Jeannine Hebert, Lee Mathieu, Bernice Colbath, and Fern Chmielecki. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 4-7 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, May 19, 12 Noon, at St. Therese Church, 120 West Granby Rd., Granby. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2275 Silas Deane Highway, First Floor N - Unit 9, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, 74 Batterson Park Road, Farmington, CT 06032.
