Helena “Dunc” Nickerson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, March 06, 2018. Helena was born on January 5, 1925 in New York City, NY, and grew up in Troy, NY. Helena pursued a degree in Business Administration and joined the Marine Corps on March 21, 1945, becoming a Corporal Paymaster Clerk stationed at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA, where she met the love of her life, Ernest “Nick” Nickerson. The two became lifelong dance partners and were married August 2, 1947, moving to Manchester in 1952. A Veteran of World War II, Helena was extremely proud and honored to be a Marine. She was honorably discharged on July 17, 1946. She was a longtime member of the American Legion, Honored guest of the VFW, and Secretary for the 8th Infantry Marine Division Legion Reunion Committee. Having four children of her own, Helena had open arms and love for many others who also called her “Mom.” Above all, she treasured her family. Thank you, Mom, for loving us so well. Besides the love of her life for 65 years, Nick, Helena was predeceased by her sister, Sarah “Sally” Connor and her husband Bob; and a son-in-law, Raymond Lemieux. She leaves behind her four children, Patricia Lemieux of Windsor, Deborah Wilk and her husband Doug of Bennington, NH; Jeffery Nickerson and his wife Patricia of W.
