KAMM, Rudolph H. “Rudy” Rudolph H. Kamm, 104, of East Hampton, Connecticut passed away peacefully at Chestelm Health & Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, March 4, 2018 with his loving and caring family by his side. Rudy was the loving and devoted husband to Doris (Balfour) Kamm for 49 years. Rudy was born in Glastonbury, Connecticut on March 4, 1914, one of eight (8) sons and three (3) daughters of the late William R. and Rose (Semen) Kamm. He grew up in East Hartford and settled in Windsor approximately 80 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Rudy, his brother Walter Kamm, and their friend, Joe Ruggiero, owned and operated Tolland Auto Body on Tolland Street, East Hartford. Rudy and Walter then went out on their own, first opening Kamm’s Sales and Service on Burnside Ave, East Hartford, and then Kamm’s Gulf on Main Street, East Hartford. Rudy’s last years of employment were at Ardery Chevrolet in Windsor and South End Auto in Rocky Hill. Rudy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, in addition to being a self-taught inventor/builder of functional machines, like his Caboose (motor home). He also loved to entertain family and friends in Eastport, Maine, especially during Fourth of July celebrations. Besides his parents and his brothers Emil, William, Ernest, Edward, Walter, Raymond, Howard, and sisters Rose (Kamm) Bartlett, Pauline (Kamm) Santoro, and Dorothy (Kamm) Fumieo, Rudy was predeceased by his wife Doris (Balfour) Kamm, son William R. Kamm, and grandsons Timothy and Gregory Sturges. Rudy is survived by his loving daughter, Doris Susan Sturges and her husband Mike Sturges, of East Hampton, two sons, Rudolph H. Kamm Jr. and his wife Laila Mandour of Wethersfield, and Steven Kamm of East Haddam; three grandchildren, William R. Kamm and his wife Karin of McMurray, PA, Steve Kamm of East Hartford, Max Kamm of East Haddam; great-granddaughters Jordyn and Kayla and great-grandsons Will and Timothy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018 with a celebration of Rudy’s life at 10:30 a.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Homes, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Windsor.
