Loving Husband,Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle

Joe Braga, 63, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4th, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Maria de Fatima Braga for 42 years. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Jose Maria Braga and Arminda Sousa, he was a Newington resident for 32 years and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Joe was one of the founders of the Holy Ghost Society in East Hartford. He loved the Red Sox, the Patriots and had a passion for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson, which led him to become a member of the Lusitanos of Hartford. Along with his wife, Joe leaves his children, Mario Braga and his wife Paula and Crestina Walker and her husband Jeffrey, and his three grandchildren, Brittney, Emma and Zachary, all of Newington. He also leaves his eight siblings, Joao Braga and his wife Maria Virginia of Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, Antero Braga, Tiberio Braga and his wife Maria Filomena, Judite Magalhaes and her husband Arnaldo all of Canada, Francisco Braga and his wife Zenalia of Newington, Antonio Braga of Hartford, Miguel Braga, and Marta Braga both of Newington, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, David and Ludovina Braga. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 7th, from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. He will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St. I 91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
