Tribute & Message From The Family

Marilyn Elizabeth Avery, 82 of Hartford, CT, passed away on December 28, 2017. She died peacefully at St. Francis Hospital. Her family and close friends saw her and shared memories with her before she died. She was born on January 18, 1935 in Hartford, CT to her late parents James C. and Elizabeth (Bolden) Smith. She was preceded in death by her beloved younger brother, Carl J. Smith, nephew Tony May, cousin Madeline Bolden and soulmate Gustavus Black. She attended Weaver High School. She worked at and retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Master Machinist. She enjoyed socializing with her family and friends, studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses, watching Westerns and Judge Judy on TV and extensive travel. Her last trip was to Media, PA to witness the birth of her great granddaughter, Taira Avery-Garner on November 28, 2013. She is survived by her younger sister, Carol Graham and her husband Vincent Graham, Sister-in-Law Ethel Smith, daughter, Wanda Holmes-Perdue/Arthur Perdue-Spouse of Windsor, CT and son, Patrick M. Avery/Tonyia (Biggins) Avery-Spouse of Orland Park, IL. She leaves her devoted nieces; Cheryl Smith, Wanda Smith, Lynnette Wright, Alicia Strong/Marcus-Spouse, Dorette Graham, Jackie Graham, Vivian Davis, nephews; Carl A. Smith and Garland May, cousins; Warren Bolden/Janice-Spouse, Annette Faulk, Valerie Bolden-Barrett, Sandy Foote, Alfie and Cynthia Maitland, Susan Brissett, Elouise Seabrook, Celeste Daniels, Sonja Nelson-Brown, Alma and Chris Darocha, in addition to other family and friends who were always there for her whenever she needed them. Grandchildren; Jomo Foley/Regina-Spouse, Taria Avery-Garner/Shawn-Spouse, Patrick Avery Jr./Tasha, James Holmes, Amanda Perdue and Sharon Crews. Great Grandchildren; Nijhon Foley, James Foley, Anika Avery, Patrick Carter Avery, Taira Avery-Garner, Shawn Avery-Garner, Aaliyah Perdue, Autumn Rosado, Randal Crews and Ryen Crews. Devoted and Loving Best Friend, Maxine Miller. Devoted and Loving Caregiver, Marcella Modeste. Her family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor followed by services at 12:00 PM.
