Tribute & Message From The Family

June (Lord) Guillow, 93, of Vernon, CT, beloved wife of the late Kenneth E. Guillow, died peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. June was born into and old English family on April 21, 1924 in Hamburg, CT, daughter of the late Reginald and Marie (Shephard) Lord. The Lord family arrived in America in 1634 and were the original proprietors of Hartford and Old Saybrook. The Lord family traded with and bought land from the Mohegan Indians and formed a peaceful alliance. June grew up on the Lord family dairy farm in Hamburg, CT and was educated in a one room school house in Hamburg. She was married to the love of her life, Kenneth E. Guillow in 1956 and together they lived in Vernon for 44 years. June was a very talented singer who studied Opera with Freideric Shaw and performed with the CT Opera. She was a dramatic Soprano who loved Pagliacci and La Boheme. She had the opportunity throughout the years to travel to Europe to visit relatives and friends. Upon the passing of her sister Yvonne, June helped to raise her nephew Robert Brown. She was a member of the Rockville United Methodist Church and past president of the South United Methodist Women’s Group. June was a kind, caring, loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed. She was very active and a “hands-on” grandmother in the lives of her grandchildren. She loved her flower gardens and camping with Ken. June volunteered for many years at Northeast Elementary School where she was lovingly known as “Nana.” She is the last in the line of the Lord’s in her family to pass on. She leaves her daughter, Joanne Colletti and her husband Anthony of Vernon; her grandchildren, Erin Culvey, Ryan Culvey and his wife Lisa, Eileen Machnicki and her husband John III; her great granddaughter, Rayana Culvey; and her step-grandchildren, Ashley Colletti, Chelsea St. Pierre and her husband Michael, and Anthony Colletti. She was predeceased by her brother, James Lord, and sister, Yvonne Wojtowicz. A Memorial Service will be held to Celebrate June’s Life on Thursday, January 4, 2018, 11 a.m., at the Rockville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Northeast School PTO.
