Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Irene by adding your memories and photos.

Irene "Renie" (Legowski) McCarthy, 89, of Newington, loving wife of the late Dennis J. McCarthy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Born in Southington, the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian (Pilitowski) Legowski, she was raised in Hartford, before moving to Newington 33 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the VFW Women's Auxiliary and enjoyed spending time volunteering at the Newington Senior Center. Irene kept on the move, enjoying roller skating in her younger years and remaining passionate about the things that made her happy throughout her life. She loved the beach at Hawk's Nest, crocheting, playing cards and BINGO, and especially trips to the casino. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed many years of good times with her friends at Bowl-O- Rama. Rooted in family, she was happiest when in the company of her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She leaves her three loving children; Richard McCarthy and his wife Janice of Rocky Hill, Sharon M. Laraia of Newington and Kevin McCarthy and his wife Melissa of Newington; her grandchildren Meggin Rosario, Patrick McCarthy, Jennifer White, Michael Wagoner, Christopher Laraia, and Kasey McCarthy and her eight precious great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Jane Williams of FL, her brother in law Joseph Phillipon, her longtime companion Joe Rouleau, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband Dennis, she was predeceased by her sisters; Stella Markham, Velcia Cambouris and Whilomena Phillipon and her brother Walter Legowski. Irene's funeral will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Duksa Family Funeral Homes, Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave. in Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newington. She will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery immediately following. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.

Dear Kevin and Family; I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Be comforted in the thought that Irene just filled the last chair at the card table (I can see her now with Dennis and her friends, Jeanette and Doris). She was so nice and full of love. She will truly be missed.
